Bear in mind that fish produce their own level of nitrites, which is non-toxic to fish. Nitrite is defined as nitrous acidy salts, which esters of nitrite is produced from acids.

Nitrates are utilized to change organic compounds and turn them into nitrates. Nitrates help to breakdown ammonia, turning the ammonia into nitrites while nitrates will produce ammonia build up. Test kits typically are used to test alkalinity.
