Horse Racing
Betting on the horses is a popular pastime in Hong Kong. During the racing season (September to June), thousands flock to the city's two racecourses. Either stand trackside and see the horses at close quarters or splash out on a more lavish box with a buffet meal included. Even if you are not a gambler, a visit to Happy Valley or Shatin provides an opportunity to savour an electric atmosphere.
Morning Tea
As the city wakes up to another day, many locals search out a place to partake in yum cha, which translates simple as “drink tea”. Tea, and the many different varieties available, is the important feature of all Chinese cuisine but this expression often encompasses eating dim sum –the most famous part of Cantonese cuisine. It normally comprises of small dumplings steamed in baskets. For some, the day also begins with at Tai Chi exercise heighten coordination and to encourage a healthy body and mind.
On the Waterfront
The view of Hong Kong Island from Tsim Sha Tsui is something special, particularly when the sun begins to set. After a day of exploring, a casual stroll along the promenade is well worth it. A new attraction is the Avenue of Stars, which pays tribute to Hong Kong's most famous actors. On the same stretch of path is the Museum of Art and the space Museum.

The Great Outdoors
Lantau Island
If you flew into Hong Kong, you will have already visited Lantau, the territory's biggest island. Taking the ferry to Silvermine Bay before traveling along the coast to beautiful Cheung Sha Beach can be a rewarding experience in itself.
Further afield still is the fishing village on stilts, Tai O, and if you venture up into the hills, you'll locate Po Lin monastery and the giant bronze Big Buddha. In fact, you can't miss it!
In the waters surrounding the island, a unique sub-species of humpback dolphins live. A short boat journey from Lantau will take you to see the pink marine mammals thrive in their natural habitat.
This year sees the opening of the first phase of the Hong Kong Disneyland theme park and resort. It's located on the other side of the other side of the island at Penny's Bay.
