Temple Street

As night falls, hundreds of small stalls burst into action on this busy street. There is plenty of tat to be found, but there are also many items well worth a purchase. Alarm clocks chime, karaoke music blasts out from stereos and you'll have to push past a throng of people to make it to the end of the road.

Man Mo Temple

The territory's oldest temple sits near SoHo on Hong Kong Island. Fragrant incense billows from its entrances as people pay respect and worship the gods Man (literature) and Mo (war).

Make sure you walk along Hollywood Road and its parallel lane, known locally as Cat Street, to inspect some very fine Chinese antiques and curios. Colonial building western Market is also nearby.

Wong Tai Sin Temple

Named after the Taoist god of healing, this temple is one of Hong Kong's largest. Located in northern Kowloon, visitors can also have their fortune told.

Jade Market

Not far away from Temple Street, this covered market in Yau Ma Tei offers some great jewellery – not just made from jade – at very reasonable prices.

Ladies Market

Not only known for its women's clothing, this pedestrianised street in Mong Kok is a great place to pick up a bargain.

Boutique Shops

There are plenty of Hong Kong outlets currently making a name for themselves across the world. One of the most famous is Shanghai Tang, which you can find on Pedder Street in central.

Other popular stores include G.O.D (an acronym for “Goods of Desire”) and several independent shops located on Ap Lei Chau that sell household goods and quality furniture.
